Minister of Agriculture presents plan to confront the La Niña phenomenon

The Minister of Agriculture, Jhenifer Mojica, presented in Congress the technical intervention plan to mitigate risks in the sector in the face of the arrival of the La Niña phenomenon.

The details of the strategy were revealed during a political control debate in the Sixth Committee of the Senate.

As explained by the portfolio leader, “It is better to get ready and anticipate than to be late to repair victims. The message is that with focus, with information from Ideam, with support and an alliance with the entire Agrarian Reform System, climate emergencies can be overcome. We have to anticipate to the most difficult scenario. Now we have the information in real time to anticipate.

Among the actions that will be applied The strategic plan of La Mojana is included. This will consist of information management, animal health and welfare, social property planning, land adaptation, technology transfer and technical assistance, marketing, financing and institutional articulation to face extreme climatic conditions.

In the specific case of La Mojana, the focus is on the reactivation of the mechanisms; the support of the ICA and the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority. The minister also announced the activation of a Unified Agro Command Post that is fed with information from the environmental system for decision making.

According to Mojica, another key point is the creation of a new instrument: the incentive for Comprehensive Agricultural Risk Management (IIGRA).
