Poland’s border with Belarus It’s been a sticking point. since migrants began to settle there in 2021, after the Belarusian capital, Minsk, an ally of Russia, opened travel agencies in the Middle East offering a new unofficial route towards Europe, a move about which the European Union warned “that was designed to create a crisis“.
In this situation, Poland will invest 10 billion zlotys (about 2.34 billion euros) through a program to secure its eastern border and thus try to strengthen its defenses against what is considered a “recent threat from Russia and Belarus”, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, relations have become even more strainedwith Warsaw increasing defense spending and accusing Minsk and Moscow of attempts to destabilize Poland.

“We decided to invest 10 billion zlotys in our security, and especially on a secure eastern border“Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a news conference.
“We are starting a major project to build a secure border, which includes a system of fortifications, as well as landscaping and environmental decisions that will make this border impossible for a potential enemy to passTusk did not give further details on what type of fortifications will be built.
This measure is preceded by the construction of a Polish border wall that cuts through Europe’s last ancient forest. It is close to the border between Poland and Belarus. It is more than 180 km long and 5.5 meters highand they built it to “protect against illegal migration, carried out by the previous Polish government.”

The border wall that scientists called it an environmental disasterthey complemented it with a system of cameras and sensors that monitor the border.
Referring to current anti-immigration projects, Tusk announced plans to strengthen the eastern border in early May, but without giving details.
He also said he would talk to the European Investment Bank on Monday about financing 500 million zlotys117,344,500 million euros, for the satellite component of the European Sky Protection Initiative.
The European Sky Protection Initiative is a common air defense scheme established by Germany in 2022 to boost European air defense. Tusk has compared it to Israel’s Iron Dome system.
Policies against migrants had already been toughened in 2021when thanks to the new immigration law, illegal migrants could be expelled from Poland immediately, without even analyzing asylum requests.
Warsaw accused, after this new law, Belarus of “provoking a migration crisis on the border to “destabilize the EU” and provoking a “hybrid war”, to justify the construction of the border wall.
