Nine Moroccan citizens imprisoned in Somalia after being sentenced to death for belonging to the jihadist group Islamic State will soon be repatriated to serve their sentence in Morocco, as reported by the Moroccan National Human Rights Council (CNDH).
The president of the Moroccan organization, Amina Buayach, explained that the Somali authorities have agreed to hand over the prisoners, sentenced on February 29, according to the Le360 news portal.
“Thanks to the contribution of the CNDH and other national and international parties, Somalia has agreed to transfer to Morocco these Moroccan citizens sentenced to death by a Somali military court,” Buayach explained during an event held in Rabat on the occasion of the International the Edition and the Book.
Buayach has thus highlighted the importance of the CNDH’s relations with Human Rights organizations in Africa and around the world. Several Moroccan organizations had urged the authorities to achieve the repatriation of the convicted.
The head of the CNDH has participated in a conference on relations with Spain and Portugal in which Álvaro Frutos Rosado and Ahmed Buchareb have also been present.
