The White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, has met with the Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, and with the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Mustafa, to talk about efforts to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip through an agreement for the release of the hostages kidnapped by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7.
The meeting, which took place last Sunday within the framework of Sullivan’s visit to Israel, the US envoy also emphasized the need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, according to a statement from the White House.
Likewise, they have spoken about the reform agenda of the Palestinian Government, which a few weeks ago was reformed and announced a series of measures aimed at improving financial transparency. In recent years, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has suffered a loss of credibility due to emerging corruption cases, amid pressure from his Western partners to modernize institutions and growing support from the population to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
During his stay in Israel, the White House envoy met with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, with the leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, the Chief of Defense, Herzi Halevi , and the members of the war cabinet, Benny Gantz and Gadi Eizenkot, to talk about the situation in Gaza and the unwavering support of the United States to Israel, and conveyed to them the need to allow greater entry of assistance into Gaza and to reinforce the safety of humanitarian workers.
