This Saturday there were new demonstrations and mobilizations against the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip in cities such as Berlin, Paris and London, coinciding this time with the 76th anniversary of the Nakba or Palestinian Catastrophe after the creation of the State of Israel.
In London, protesters gathered in the city center and marched to the Government headquarters, on Downing Street, to demand a ceasefire and an end to arms sales to Israel.
“The brutal attacks on Gaza continue despite pressure for a ceasefire and Israel’s growing isolation,” the Stop the War coalition highlighted in a statement prior to the march.
The British Police have confirmed an arrest for “leading the chants” for a crime of “aggravated public order and alleged criminal damage” for chanting slogans such as “Intifada, Revolution” or “British Government, watch your back. Palestine is back”, reports the newspaper ‘Daily Mail’.
The Paris demonstration has denounced the military aggression against the Gaza Strip and has demanded an immediate ceasefire in a call in which various organizations have participated.
The attendees have chanted slogans to denounce the complicity of the international community in this “genocidal” war and have asked the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to position himself more forcefully in favor of the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, in Berlin, several associations, including some Jewish ones, have demonstrated in favor of Palestine and to denounce the “genocide” of the Israeli forces. They have particularly criticized Israel’s intention to militarily take Rafah and have demanded an end to the export of German weapons to Israel.
Some 5,400 people have supported the call, according to the Police, well above the 2,000 that the authorities had initially estimated. The participants traveled the distance from the Kreuzberg neighborhood to the Berlin City Hall headquarters, on Alexanderplatz, under the motto “Palestine will be free.”
There have also been protests in Copenhagen, the Danish capital, where they have expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and have denounced the war launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip.
