At least ten executed this Saturday in Iranian prisons

May 18. (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least eight men and two women have been executed in the Iranian prisons of Urmia, Selmas and Neishabor, according to human rights organizations.

Five of the men and one woman were executed in the Urmia Central Prison, according to the US-funded radio station Radio Farda, according to the Iranian Human Rights Organization.

The deceased were sentenced to capital punishment for drug-related crimes. This is Parvin Mousavi, 53 years old and originally from Maraghé; Ramin Lundi, 29, originally from Urmia; Mansur Naseri, 45, from Bukan; Yusuf Saeedi-Chehre, 30, from Urmia, and Parviz Mirqasemi, also from Urmia.

An individual from Tabriz and Fateme Abdulahi, convicted of intentional murder, have also been executed. Abdulahi has been executed in Neishabur prison.

The Iranian Human Rights Organization has denounced that Iran is the country with the most executions of women in the world, with 22 sentences carried out in 2023 alone. This year there are already ten, with Abdulahi.

On the other hand, the Harana Human Rights Agency has reported the execution of three prisoners for drug crimes in Selmas Prison, in the province of West Azerbaijan. They are Asghar Hayizadé, from Selmas, and two prisoners from Mahabad and Jargush, also in Selmas.

At least 834 people have been executed throughout Iran since the start of the feminist and political freedom protests that began after the death in September 2022 of the Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini after being detained by the Moral Police.
