The governments of the United States and Argentina signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday to establish a new high-level strategic dialogue that will allow “building a more resilient and prosperous future.”
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, received the Argentine Foreign Minister, Diana Mondino, in Washington, with whom he held a closed-door meeting about the priorities of both countries.
“Something that I appreciate very much today is really a reflection of the deepening of the relationship of cooperation and coordination between the United States and Argentina… I believe that only in recent months there has been a significant intensification of the work that we are doing together, in practically all areas.” fronts,” Blinken said at the beginning of the meeting.
Democracy, human rights, economic growth, science and technology were some of the main topics mentioned by Blinken as areas of cooperation.
Mondino, for his part, assured that Argentina is “promoting development” through “democracy and freedom,” which he described as values shared with the United States.
“We have the firm intention of expanding the trade and investment agenda. We want to promote between our two countries everything that can help us improve the lives of our people,” said the minister.
Mondino called on the US government to take “concrete actions” such as “opening markets for Argentine exports, including our country in the Alliance of the Americas for Economic Prosperity, inserting Argentina into strategic supply chains, and the inclusion of our country in the benefits granted through the Inflation Reduction Law.”
After addressing the press from the podium, both officials signed the documents in which they commit to carrying out the established dialogue.
In late February of this year, Blinken visited Buenos Aires and held meetings with President Javier Milei, whom the top US diplomat praised for his efforts to stabilize the Argentine economy.
At that time, Blinken assured that the US was exploring investment opportunities in critical minerals, especially lithium, through its International Development Finance Corporation and a new Mineral Security Partnership, adding that Washington wants US companies to remain the preferred partners of Argentina.
