North Korea launched several ballistic missiles this Friday towards the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, as reported by the South Korean Armed Forces, which have not yet given details about the type of device launched.
The incident takes place almost a month after the North Korean authorities carried out a ballistic test with short-range projectiles, also launched towards the same area.
“At around 3:10 p.m. (local time) we observed several devices that presumably correspond to short-range ballistic missiles launched from the Wonsan area, in North Korea,” the South Korean Army, which has said it is analyzing the weapons, said in a statement. specifications of the missiles, including the model and its flight range.
“We have strengthened surveillance and are monitoring possible additional launches by North Korea. We remain alert and are sharing information about these missiles with US and Japanese authorities,” the text states.
The measure comes shortly after Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, described as “false” information about the alleged shipment of weapons to Russia as a sign of support for the invasion of Ukraine. “Hostile forces are deceiving public opinion with the false rumor that the weapons systems produced by North Korea are for export to Russia,” she said, according to information from the North Korean news agency KCNA.
“We have no intention of exporting our military technical capabilities to any country or opening them to the public,” said Kim, who has become a prominent figure in North Korea for leading pressure campaigns against the international community.
This is the fifth ballistic test carried out by Pyongyang so far this year. On April 22, Kim supervised the simultaneous launch of four short-range ballistic missiles.
