The evolution of ChatGPT does not stop. Earlier this week we talked about the chatbot’s new voice mode, a surprising feature based on GPT-4o. Now we have just learned about a set of new features that are aimed directly at professional users.
OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT will be able to extract documents directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. In addition, you can create interactive tables and graphs based on the analyzed data. Everything, the AI firm promises, in a simple way and with natural language.
ChatGPT, a data analyst in the office
Currently we can drag documents from any folder on our computer to ChatGPT. The first novelty, as we say, is an integration with external services. By clicking on the attach file icon we can connect with Google Drive and OneDrive.
The integration will work as with other services. A pop-up window will ask us if we want to give ChatGPT permission to access our files. Next, we can navigate between the cloud service folders to choose the desired document.
ChatGPT will analyze the data and display it both in an interactive table and in text below. In the case of the table, we can expand it and click on specific areas to ask questions or execute actions in natural language. Let’s look at some examples.
OpenAI says this functionality will be useful for combining spreadsheets of expense messages and creating a pivot table segmented by expense type. It’s as if we were chatting with a kind of Microsoft Excel, but integrated within ChatGPT.
ChatGPT’s new capabilities, powered by GPT-4o, promise to be useful for more complex tasks, such as cleaning large data sets and segmenting specific information. These are tasks that could be highly valued in the business environment.
In relation to the visual presentation of information, it does not only work with tables. We may also ask you to create bar charts, line charts, and more. In all cases, the graphics are interactive and customizable. And, also, something very important, they can be downloaded.
The Sam Altman-led company says these features will be available “In the next weeks”, so we have to wait to start using them. Of course, they will not be available to everyone, but to ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise members.
It should be noted that, while these types of functionalities may be promising, we must not lose sight of the weaknesses of AI. Generative algorithms can be mind-blowing, so it’s unclear how precise the tools can be.
