Aug. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
About ten soldiers and ‘volunteers’ recruited by the Burkina Faso authorities to combat terrorism died on Thursday in an attack by unidentified armed persons against a position in the province of Bam (north).
According to information provided by the Burkina Faso news portal Infowakat, the attack resulted in the death of three soldiers and five ‘volunteers’, with no claim for responsibility for the attack at the moment.
Thus, the attackers would have simultaneously assaulted positions of the Army and the ‘volunteers’ in the town of Bourzanga, in the Center-North region, within the framework of the upturn in insecurity due to jihadist attacks in recent years.
Burkina Faso, ruled by a military junta since the January coup against then-president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, has generally experienced a significant increase in insecurity since 2015, leading to a wave of internally displaced persons. and refugees to other countries in the region.
The attacks, the work of both the affiliate of Al Qaeda and that of the Islamic State in the region, have also contributed to increasing inter-community violence and have caused self-defense groups to flourish, to which the Burkinabe government has added ‘volunteers ‘ to help in the fight against terrorism.
