The first job offers to live in Neom are now open, and they are as extravagant as the project

Until now, we knew several of the keys about the pharaonic Neom and The Line project that Saudi Arabia has in its hands. Two skyscrapers and a technological mega city are the starting point to which “additions” have been added, such as a mega port for super yachts and hundreds of luxury villas around it. Now, what are all these people going to do in this urban fantasy? We have the first clue with job offersand they are at the level of its hyperbolic architecture.

More than 200 offers. At the time of writing the article, I see that the project page has 235 job offers open. Many of these are quite common when we talk about any urban planning project with such an investment: from construction manager to engineer, jobs in digital marketing web operations or golf course design manager.

However, and as we will see below, there are others that clearly indicate that we are facing a project that is certainly unclassifiable, since it would not derail within a dystopian science fiction novel.

Responsible for systems and technical services. Yes, it may seem like a “normal” position, but when you look at the “fine print” it indicates that it is a leadership position for Neom Community School. In addition, personnel are sought for the city’s extensive educational system, such as Arabic and Islamic teachers, music teachers or, attention, “teachers of individuals and societies.” By the way, the school is part of the Neom U projectan educational branch that seems crucial to the vision of the city as an R&D center.

Head of student recruitment. In the offer there are no doubts about the occupations. It is looking for someone to directly take the reins to “ensure Neom is considered the most attractive place to live and work” and prepare the “brightest young minds” for careers within Neom.

Director of personalized health. As already described at the Neom baseswhoever wins the job is expected to play a crucial role in the compliance with prioritizing health and well-being of citizens on transportation and infrastructure, “directing and defining Neom’s strategy to integrate genetics into personalized healthcare.” Furthermore, it is indicated that genetic data will be used to identify health risks and develop health interventions (for whatever reason, ‘Gattaca’ has come to mind).

Professional for the aquatic mobility station. We are before a job which is offered to those who wish to supervise the smooth operation of the Neom (Oxagon and Sindalah) “aquatic mobility station”, or, in other words, the boat services.

Animal repopulation leader. Put in an ecological key by Neom. Looking for professionals who help build corridors for the fauna that will coexist with the population, in addition to tracking species and evaluating biodiversity “to address the historical degradation that left the earth in a desolate state.”

The latest controversy: lethal force. While the project continues to advance and even, as we see, certainly surprising job offers come to light, the controversy does not cease either. Last week, the BBC reported that Saudi forces had been authorized to use “deadly force” if necessary to evict those people who refuse or resist being relocated from the area where the project is being developed.
