Intel has recently boasted of the results obtained by his Aurora supercomputera supercomputer that integrates 63,744 Intel Max GPUs. Some Intel Max cards that were previously called Ponte Vecchio when it was unveiled in 2019, the year in which Intel unveiled this accelerator GPU with scalable capacity along with OneAPI. 5 years later Intel puts an end to this Ponte Vecchio GPU to make way for the Intel Gaudi 2 and 3 along with the Future bet Falcon Shores.
According to they tell us in Server the Home, Intel has communicated that Ponte Vecchio will be discontinued soon to make way for the new solutions of the company. Intel will continue selling this GPU to fill out existing pools until its next Falcon Shores venture arrives in 2025. Intel wants users use Gaudi 2 or Gaudi 3although Ponte Vecchio will also be present at the same time will continue with software development for this platform.
The Xe architecture which began with this GPU, has evolved and has been adapted to different platforms, such as the Xe-HPG for Intel Arc games or the Xe-LPG for portable devices, for professionals there are also the Xe-HPC for data centers and Xe-HP for servers. In any case, the next step for Intel is Falcon Shorestogether with new Xe2 architecture which according to rumors will be present in the Next-generation laptop GPUs.
