The Rogue Prince of Persia delays its release due to the popularity of Hades II

Evil Empire has decided to slightly delay the release of The Rogue Prince of Persia to put a gap between the debut of its roguelike initially scheduled for May 14 and Hades II, a title of the same genre that arrived by surprise this week in Steam early access. The French team has not provided a new date, but anticipates that it will be available in May. At Ubisoft, the game’s publisher, a delay is a common occurrence.

“It’s been a bit of a crazy week for us. It all started with the release of a little game called Hades II, have you heard of it?” says Evil Empire in a message to the community. “Since everyone and even your mother is playing that game (also our team… and their mothers), we decided to let people have fun with it before releasing The Rogue Prince of Persia. We keep the launch for May and on Monday we will return with a specific date.

“We have full confidence in The Rogue Prince of Persia, but not every day a game of the same genre, which is one of the most anticipated of 2024, is released in early access a week before you are going to do the same,” continues Evil Empire. “We’re not too proud to ignore the implication of this, and we believe this brief delay is the best decision for us and our Early Access journey.”

Evil Empire adds that this additional time will allow the studio to continue polishing The Rogue Prince of Persia and eliminate some additional bugs before release. The studio had prepared a fairly generous Day 1 patch, so a few more days will serve to test it more thoroughly and add more things. Evil Empire says it understands all those who feel upset by this last minute delay and apologizes to all of them. He also assures them that “the wait will be worth it.”

Evil Empire is not wrong when it comes to the popularity of Hades II. In just 24 hours Hades II managed to register 102,000 concurrent players on Steam, more than double the 44,000 of the first installment. The reviews are not far behind and are around 20,000 with a rating of “extremely positive.”
