Three PKK members 'neutralized' in Turkish attack in northern Iraq

May 13. () –

Three suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been “neutralized” in a Turkish military operation in northern Iraq.

“Our heroic Armed Forces continue to fight uninterruptedly to eliminate terrorism at its source. Three PKK/YPG terrorists detected in the Qandil region have been neutralized,” the Turkish Ministry of Defense published in a message on X, formerly Twitter.

The message is accompanied by a video with images of Turkish fighter planes taking off and recordings of large-scale explosions, so it can be deduced that the “neutralized” militiamen have died.

“We will continue destroying the lairs of terrorism with determination and determination!” concluded the message from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, which refers to the PKK and the People’s Protection Units (YPG), an organization related to the PKK with a presence in the northeastern Syria.

The Ministry has also reported the discovery of a cave used by “terrorists” as an arsenal in northern Iraq. The cave had four rooms in which there were “a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and materials”, including an anti-aircraft cannon, a sniper rifle, seven infantry rifles, two machine guns, five rocket launchers, a mortar, several hand grenades, seven radios, thermal umbrellas and plenty of ammunition.

Since the PKK took up arms in 1984 to demand independence in the Kurdish-majority Turkish southeast, more than 40,000 people have lost their lives in violence.
