Judge fines Trump for violating 'gag order' and warns of possibility of imprisoning him

This Monday, May 6, Judge Juan Merchán imposed a fine of $1,000 on former United States President Donald Trump for failing to comply with the so-called ‘gag order’, which prohibits him from issuing public or intimidating statements about the trial, the jurors and their families. The magistrate had already sanctioned the former president on May 1, when he ordered him to pay $9,000 for the same reason. This time, Merchán warned Trump that he will consider sending him to jail for contempt if he continues to violate that ruling. The judge, of Colombian origin, is leading the case in Manhattan for alleged falsification of documents from the Trump Organization to hide payments to the adult film actress, known as ‘Stormy Daniels’, during the 2016 presidential campaign.
