Australian Police shoot dead a young man who tried to stab a group of officers in the city of Perth

Muslim associations warned the agents of the danger it represented before the incident

May 5. () –

Last night, the Australian Police shot dead a 16-year-old boy who tried to stab a group of officers after previously seriously injuring a person in the city of Perth.

The agents began their intervention after receiving an alert from local Muslim associations and after the young man himself notified the Police by telephone that he intended to commit violent acts, according to the prime minister of the state of Western Australia, of which Perth is capital, Roger Cook.

The Police finally located the young man, identified as “Caucasian and converted to Islam”, in a parking lot in the Willetton neighborhood, near the city center. There, the young man rushed, kitchen knife in hand, against the group of agents who had come to meet him, around 10:00 p.m. (local time).

A first attempt to subdue him with an electric gun was unsuccessful because the young man was wearing loose clothing, which prevented the discharge from reaching his body. Finally, an agent ended up shooting him dead.

The Chief Commissioner of State Police, Col Blanch, later stated that the young man had a “complicated history of mental health problems”, and had been in a rehabilitation program for people “radicalized on the Internet” for two years, according to know at a press conference, accompanied by the state premier, reported by the ‘Sydney Morning Herald’.

Blanch has refused to describe the incident as a terrorist attack and has declared himself convinced that the young man “acted alone.”

The injured man has been identified as a man in his 30s who received a stab wound in the back from the young man when he left training at a gym. He is hospitalized in serious condition, but stabilized.
