The wholesale electricity market, the so-called 'pool', will register negative prices this Sunday for eight hours, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., with the lowest value of -1.50 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. according to data from the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE).
These eight hours with negative prices, added to the hour at zero euros per megawatt from 9 to 10 hours, will make the average price of electricity in Spain this Sunday be 2.17 euros/MWh. The maximum value will be recorded between 9 and 10 p.m. with 8.93 euros/MWh.
TO ZERO EUROS HALF THE HOURS OF APRIL
The price of electricity has been at zero euros for half the hours so far in April and will continue to sink for the remainder of the month, according to estimates by the ASE group.
Specifically, in a total of 84 hours (20.6% of the total) negative prices were recorded, while the average price between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. was -0.08 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). In addition, there were another 117 hours – 28.7% – with 'zero' prices.
The average so far in April for the 'pool' stands at 5.68 euros/MWh, the minimum since there are records for such a long period. From the beginning of the month until April 21, the maximum value that has been reached is 19.94 euros/MWh and the minimum, 0.44 euros/MWh.
