The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has unequivocally condemned the new bombing campaign launched by the Israeli Army against the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization, whose secretary general, Ziad al Najala, has called “victory day” in a message dedicated to all Palestinian militias and groups to make a common front against Israel.
“The Palestinian Presidency”, President Abbas’s statement begins, “condemns the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, denounces its absolute cessation and points to the occupying forces (Israel) as responsible for this dangerous escalation”.
“President Abbas calls on the international community to force Israel to stop this aggression against the Palestinian people, in particular in Gaza, and provide the people with international protection,” added the statement, collected by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa. .
Meanwhile, the secretary general of Islamic Jihad, Ziad al Najala, has also spoken out, warning that the fighting has only just begun.
“We are in the first hours of the open battle,” said Al Najala, who was visiting Iran at the start of the Israeli operation ‘Dawn’, on what he described as “the day of victory”.
“The pressures exerted against our people are not new, and we as a resistance will fulfill our duty and do everything possible against the aggression,” he told the Lebanon-based pan-Arab chain Al Mayadín, in comments in which he called on all Palestinian forces to act together against Israel.
“The Palestinian Authority knows its duties and I address all the fighters of our people, led by Al Fatá”, the party led by Abbas, “so that they do their duty”, he added.
The so-called “Joint Operations Room” has also been pronounced, the collective that brings together Palestinian militias and other organizations considered terrorist by Israel, including the Ezzedin al Qassam Brigades of the Islamist movement Hamas, or the Islamic Jihad itself.
In a brief statement collected by the Israeli newspaper ‘Times of Israel’, the militias accuse the Israeli government of having “full responsibility” for attacks that “will not go unpunished”. Finally, the signatories assure that they are evaluating the situation and leave a “joint” and definitive response in the hands of their leaders.
