The EU announced this Friday that 1,000 medical evacuations of patients from Ukrainian hospitals have been carried out to other centers located in 18 countries in the community space, including Spain, given the increase in the number of wounded by the war and as part of the Protection Mechanism EU civil.
“In addition to delivering medicines and medical equipment to Ukraine through the Civil Protection Mechanism, we are also coordinating medical evacuations. A thousand Ukrainian patients have been transferred to hospitals in 18 European countries,” said Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarcic. it’s a statement.
The patients have been transferred to hospitals in 18 Member States: Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Romania, Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Lithuania, Finland, Poland and the Czech Republic. .
In addition, Poland, Moldova and Slovakia have requested support to carry out medical evacuation operations from their respective countries due to the large influx of people.
To alleviate hospital pressure in Ukraine, the EU has been coordinating since March 11 the transfer of patients to other EU countries with available hospital capacity. Medical evacuations are financially and operationally supported by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
For her part, the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, stressed that “together with the Ukrainian authorities, we are also looking for ways to bring patients back home when they have finished their treatment, if they so decide.”
