A 5.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in northern Turkey

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, detected this Thursday an earthquake of magnitude 5.6, which was followed by several aftershocks, in the province of Tokat, in northern Turkey. .

At the moment, no victims have been reported, although the authorities have received more than 230 emergency calls, reporting damage to several homes and industrial buildings. Therefore, they have set up tents as temporary shelter.

AFAD has indicated that it has ordered the dispatch of a helicopter from the General Directorate of Security and an unmanned aerial vehicle from the General Command of the Gendarmerie, adding that it is monitoring the evolution of the situation.

The governors of Tokat and Yozgat, Numan Hatipoglu and Mehmet Ali Ozkan, respectively, have indicated that they have decided to close the schools in the affected towns after their evaluation, as reported by the Anatolia news agency.
