Al Burhan, who chairs the Sovereign Transitional Council, has also dismissed the governors of the states of Kassala and Gedaref, Mohamed Musa and Mohamed Abdelrahman, respectively, according to sources cited by the radio station Radio Dabanga, which added that the three would have ties. with the Islamic Movement in Sudan.

On the other hand, the head of the Army has immediately appointed Hussein Auad, until now deputy foreign minister, at the head of Sudanese diplomacy, while Sadiq el Azrag has been placed at the head of Kassala and Mohamed Ahmed Hasan will be governor of Gedaref.

The authorities have not yet commented on the decision, which comes amid an uptick in fighting with the RSF around the city of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur. According to the Sudan Tribune portal, the clashes have already left more than 50,000 displaced.

During the last few days, the RSF and allied Arab militias have attacked more than 15 towns located west of El Fasher, a situation that has led the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to express his “deep concern” about the recent rise in tensions in the area, the main humanitarian hub of the international organization in Sudan.

The war broke out on April 15, 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the transition to derail. opened in 2019 after the overthrow of the Omar Hasan al Bashir regime.
