Polish farmers resume protests on the border with Ukraine to pressure the Government

April 18 () –

Polish farmers took to the streets again this Thursday to protest along the border with Ukraine against the European Green Deal and the European Commission's decision to withdraw tariff measures on the import of food products from Ukrainian territory.

Thus, they have once again blocked several border crossings, especially in Medika and Korczowa, to express their displeasure at the situation, which has not changed since the Commission made the decision, according to information from radio station RMF24.

The protests this Thursday have been called around 8:00 (local time) and their objective is only to facilitate the passage of a truck from Ukraine at the hour. The rest of the vehicles will be able to cross the area.

The organization has insisted that the sector is still waiting for the talks with the Government to bear fruit after the Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, was in favor of listening to their demands. However, the promised regulations have not yet materialized.

Last March, the Government and farmers reached an agreement to limit the supply of agricultural products from Ukraine and establish a series of additional payments to farmers.

Last November, Polish transporters also staged a series of strikes and blockades to protest the measure imposed by the European Union that allows Ukrainian drivers to operate in community territory without previously obtaining a special permit to do so.

The drivers requested the restoration of this permit for Ukrainian competitors to work in the area despite the fact that this measure was suspended precisely in an extraordinary manner as a sign of support for Ukraine after the Russian invasion of the country.
