What is the INE chatbot for?
With this new option integrated into the INE chatbot on WhatsApp (+52 55 5809 7300), citizens will be able to send information in text, audio, video and image format that they consider false or misleading, and request confirmation, which will initially be by Agence France-Press (AFP) Factual, although more media outlets that make up the International Fact Verification Network (IFCN) may be incorporated.
These organizations will be able to collaborate through an intelligent platform developed by the non-profit technology company Meedan on WhatsApp, which will concentrate citizen queries to be categorized, analyzed and verified.
Through this new direct communication strategy with citizens, it will be possible to consult and obtain verified information on possible false or inaccurate news regarding the 2024 elections. It is important to note that, in order to preserve the guiding principles of the INE, it will not be a tool to obtain verified information about candidacies, political parties and their electoral campaigns.
“Through our chatbot “Inés”, citizens will be able to consult and receive reliable information thanks to the collaboration and commitment of Meta and media specialized in verification. This strategic alliance reflects our firm commitment to certainty and transparency in these elections, and underlines the importance of collaborating between institutions and organizations to safeguard democracy,” comments Iván Flores Ramírez, in charge of the Office of the National Coordination of Social Communication of the
INE.
For her part, WhatsApp Public Policy Manager for Latin America, Paloma Szerman, highlighted that the project will help protect the democratic process that the country will experience on June 2.

Communicating with the “Inés” chatbot is very easy. You can add the INE number (+52 55 5809 7300) directly to your WhatsApp contacts and start chatting with the word HELLO.

Choose the “INE 2024 Certainty” option from the menu and start sending your questions about the electoral information circulating on social networks.
