At least seven people have been killed and nearly 50 injured in new clashes between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias around the Sudanese city of Al Fasher, capital of North Darfur. , in the midst of international alarms due to the fighting in this area of ​​the African country.

The director general of the Ministry of Health of North Darfur, Ibrahim Jater, has confirmed the death toll and has indicated that another 45 wounded civilians have arrived at one of the city's hospitals, although it is feared that the number of victims is higher. high and that not all of them have reached health centers.

Thus, the Resistance Committees of El Fasher have confirmed the difficulties when transferring those injured in the clashes, which have broken out days after the RSF and allied militias sent a large number of reinforcements to the area to try to take over its control, as reported by the Sudanese news portal Sudan Tribune.

During the last few days, the RSF and allied Arab militias have attacked more than 15 towns located west of El Fasher, a situation that has led the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to express his “deep concern” about the recent rise in tensions in the area, the main humanitarian hub of the international organization in Sudan.

The United States warned on Saturday that the city of El Fasher is becoming the scene of a “catastrophe in the making” due to the fighting between the Sudanese Army and RSF, within the framework of the war unleashed between both parties for more than a year, which has left 25 million people, half of the population, in need of humanitarian aid and which adds up to more than ten million internally displaced people and refugees.

The war broke out on April 15, 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the transition to derail. opened in 2019 after the overthrow of the Omar Hasan al Bashir regime.
