Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay came together to launch a joint candidacy that will allow them to organize the 2030 Soccer World Cup, when it will be 100 years since the first edition that took place in Montevideo. If chosen by FIFA, it would be the first time that a World Cup would be held between four countries.
Within three months, four South American teams will arrive in Qatar with the intention of winning the World Cup. Another dream has just been added to that part of the world, to host the maximum event again in 2030, for which it will apply with four united countries: Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina.
“I think it is very important that this application be from four countries, since at this point in the history of football, whose next World Cups will have 48 participating countries, it is unfeasible for only one country to apply. You may want to have it only in your country, but the truth is that it becomes very difficult, “said Alexandra Benado, Minister of Sports of Chile, to various media including RFI. “We have proposed an austere, sustainable application and we also believe that there is a historical issue because it will be 100 years since the first World Cup and that is very important for our continent,” she added.
With the slogan “2030 together”, the authorities of these four countries made the candidacy official at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, where Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in the 1930 World Cup final to become the first champion orbital.
To celebrate 100 years of the World Cup
During the official presentation of this joint application, the president of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), Ignacio Alonso, indicated that “it is fair to organize the 2030 world championship in the place where it all began, where the guts were, the courage , intelligence and effort”, to make them, however, he recognized that “we can’t just resort to the sentimental, we have to do our part and be in conditions”.
The delegations of the four countries are already working to have around 14 stadiums available.
Spain and Portugal together are for now the only rival candidacy, after applying in June 2021. In November 2024 the venue for what will be the centenary world cup will be known, which could return to where it all began for the largest popular festival that follows the King sport.
