The US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has condemned Iran's attack against Israel and has urged Iranian authorities not to carry out additional attacks, ensuring that the United States does not want a conflict with this country but will not hesitate to respond.
“We condemn these reckless and unprecedented attacks by Iran and its allies, and call on Iran to immediately stop any further attacks, including by its allied forces, and to reduce tensions,” the Defense Department said in a statement. release. “We do not seek a conflict with Iran, but we will not hesitate to act to protect our forces and support the defense of Israel,” he added.
Austin explained that US forces “remain positioned to protect” both its troops and those of its partners in the region, as well as to “provide further support for Israel's defense and improve regional stability.”
To this end, the secretary has guaranteed that he will continue to “closely monitor the situation and consult with allies and partners” of the United States.
Likewise, in a call with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, Austin joined the words of the American president, Joe Biden, “to reiterate for the second time the strong support of the United States for the defense of Israel in light of the attack unprecedented by Iran,” stating that Israel “can count on (their) full support to defend itself against any future attack by Iran and its regional proxies.”
