The Iranian Foreign Minister conveys this position to his British, Australian and German counterparts
April 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran's Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, assured his British, Australian and German counterparts this Thursday that Tehran does not intend to escalate tensions in the region, but that the lack of international response and the use of “legitimate defense” allows “punish” Israel for its attacks against the Iranian Consulate in Damascus (Syria), which left numerous dead, including senior officials of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
“When the Zionist regime tramples on International Law and the Vienna Conventions, and violates the immunity of diplomatic agents and premises, and when the UN Security Council is unable to issue a declaration condemning the terrorist attack against the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, legitimate defense with the aim of punishing the aggressor becomes a necessity,” Amirabdolahian said during a series of calls, the minister said on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
“Iran does not seek an escalation of hostility, but the return of sustainable security to the sensitive Middle East region is linked to the control of the warmongering and deranged leaders of the Zionist regime and the cessation of this regime's war crimes in Gaza and West Bank,” added the head of Iranian diplomacy.
Amirabdolahian has spoken to his respective parties from the United Kingdom, David Cameron, from Australia, Penny Wong, and from Germany, Annalena Baerbock, who have expressed concern about a possible Iranian attack on Israel.
Last week, an attack attributed to Israel hit Iranian diplomatic facilities in the Syrian capital, leaving at least 16 dead, including senior officials in Iran's Revolutionary Guard and two civilians, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Since then, the main authorities in Tehran have warned that they retain the right to respond, warnings that Israel has received, in turn, warning that they will retaliate if they are attacked in any way.
