Genetics is the study of genes and the transmission of traits between generations. This includes DNA variation and its interactions with environmental factors, as well as the impact on physical appearance.

A recent study of the Central Medical University of Rotterdam revealed why some people look younger than they really are.

The study published in the scientific journal 'Current Biology' and organized by the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands and Unilever, analyzed 2,693 images of older adults and evaluated how old they appeared to be according to the perception of a group of people and then was compared with biological age.

They discovered thatThe MC1R gene was a common factor among those who looked younger. However, participants homozygous for this gene appeared to be two years older.

Regarding the finding of the study, he spoke João Pedro de Magalhães, researcher in the genetics of aging at the University of Liverpool. According to him, the MC1R gene is associated with skin damage caused by UV rays and characteristics such as pigmentation, freckles and age spots.

While the findings are key, scientists emphasize that more research is needed to fully understand their impact.
