The Government of Portugal of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro presented this Wednesday its new program for the next legislature in which it has included 60 measures from the different plans presented in the campaign by the parties that have achieved representation in the Assembly.

“It is a program of change, but also of dialogue,” the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitao, highlighted during his presentation. “It is based on the electoral program of AD (Democratic Alliance), but draws on the proposals of the electoral programs of the parties with parliamentary representation,” he explained.

The program, which has been delivered an hour late to the president of the Assembly, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, will be debated this Thursday and Friday in a session that is expected to be marathon, according to what the Portuguese media have said.

Leitao has highlighted that this is a government program written with a view to an “open country, committed to the European Union, to the energy transition”, as well as to improving the “quality of democracy” and “fighting corruption.” .

However, and after consulting with the European institutions, Leitao has revealed that they have not included modifications to the stability program left by the previous socialist government and that the possibility of modifying the budgets has not been addressed in this last Council of Ministers.

Leitao has explained that in addition to these 60 measures there are “dozens” of them where there has been “confluence” with other parties, such as those related to the protection of the canning industry proposed by the communists, or with the promotion of outdoor school activities. free from animalists.

Regarding the proposals of other parties, there are measures in areas of justice, culture and the environment, with a 20 percent reduction to the autonomous taxation of vehicles in the income tax, or guaranteeing a majority position in the Lusa Agency, as the socialists proposed.

The Government has promised to work for “a more just and supportive country” and plans to implement birth aid, programs to prevent young people from leaving the country, or increase pensions until they are equal to the minimum wage planned for next year. legislature, about 820 euros.
