There is already an official date for the celebration of the European Elections

The Government has approved the Royal Decree calling for the next European Elections. The date chosen to hold these votes will be next Sunday June 9. That day, the 61 Spanish members of the 720 who will be part of the European Parliament will have to be elected in the legislature that will last until 2029.

The call will come into effect on April 16the day of its publication in the Official State Gazette, and the electoral campaign, which will last for 15 days, will begin at 00:00 on May 24 and will end at 24:00 on June 7.

In the coming days, the European Parliament will announce when the provisional information on the result of the election can be disseminated, which It cannot be offered until the polls have closed. in the member state whose voters are the last to vote on Sunday, June 9, 2024, explains the Ministry of the Interior.

The European regulations that regulate elections to the European Parliament establish that the electoral procedure will be governed in each member state by its national provisions. In Spain, this procedure is the one established in the Organic Law 5/1985of June 19, of the General Electoral Regime, as well as the regulatory norms of electoral processes.

Beyond the European Elections

During this year, some Spaniards will not have to vote only for the European Elections, but will have to do so in other processes. And, for example, Basques are called to the polls on April 21 to elect the new lehendakari.
