Six police officers killed in attack by Sunni terrorist group in southeastern Iran

At least six Iranian police officers died this Tuesday due to an attack carried out by the terrorist group Jaish al-Adl (Justice Army) in the province of Sistan and Balochistan, near the border with Pakistan, in the southeast. from the country.

The group, which has already claimed responsibility for several attacks in recent months, has opened fire on two vehicles in which the agents were traveling near the town of Saravan, according to information from the Iranian news agency Tasnim.

On April 4, the Sunni rebel group said it had carried out a double attack against an Iranian Revolutionary Guard base and a police station in Chabahar, in the aforementioned region. A total of 16 officers and 18 attackers died as a result of this attack.

The group was formed in 2012 and has carried out attacks on Iranian soil for the past few years. Tehran considers it a terrorist organization, as does the United States. In December, he claimed responsibility for an attack on another police station in Rask, which left seven police officers dead.

Later in January, the group carried out another attack against a checkpoint in Sistan and Balochistan province. Iran and Pakistan often accuse each other of serving as a haven for rebel groups operating and planning attacks across the border.

Jaish al-Adl was formed by Baloch separatist activists, a minority of about 10 million mainly Sunni people living in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Iran has on several occasions called on Pakistan – which is also facing operations by Baloch separatist groups in the west of the country – to increase its cooperation to confront these organizations, given that those responsible for several attacks have subsequently escaped through of the common border.
