Pentagon chief conveys to Israeli Defense Minister the “urgent need to dramatically increase” the flow of aid

April 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The White House National Security spokesman, John Kirby, celebrated this Monday the entry of more than 300 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid from Israel to the Gaza Strip, although he insisted that even more aid must enter on a continuous basis. to address the “serious” humanitarian situation.

“Yesterday we saw more than 300 trucks enter Gaza. That number is higher than any other day since the war began. And that is progress. But obviously we need this number to increase, and to be maintained, to address really serious humanitarian situation in Gaza,” he expressed during a press conference.

Furthermore, Kirby has assured that Washington has conveyed to the Israeli authorities the need to increase the flow to about 350 trucks per day, and that it must be “maintained over time.”

For his part, the Secretary of the United States Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, held a phone call with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, to convey the “urgent need to dramatically increase” the flow of humanitarian aid through the implementation of measures recently approved by Israel's war cabinet, which includes the opening of the port of Ashdod and the Erez Pass, as well as increasing aid arriving from Jordan through the Kerem Shalom Pass.

He has also asked Gallant to ensure that incidents like the one that resulted in the death of seven humanitarian workers from the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) “never happen again.” The Israeli minister, for his part, has given details of the withdrawal of his troops from southern Gaza.

Finally, the head of the Pentagon has promised to support Israel in its defense against possible attacks by Iran and its related militias in the region in the face of the threats launched from Tehran due to the Israeli attack against the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, the Syrian capital, which left 16 fatalities, including two civilians and seven members of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including two generals.
