The President of the National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, congratulated Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, for his election as President of the Senate of the fifth term, during the telephone conversations they had on April 5.

Hue praised the CPP's victory in the recent Senate elections and expressed hope that Cambodia will continue to reap successes under Hun Sen's leadership. Specifically, he mentioned the achievement of the objectives outlined in the CPP Political Platform for 2023-2028 and Phase I of the Pentagonal Strategy, which aims to turn Cambodia into an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a low-income country. high by 2050.

Vietnam, Hue stated, sees the achievements of the CPP, the State and the people of Cambodia as a source of encouragement.

Briefing President Hue on Cambodia's socio-economic situation and national development strategies, Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia's consistent foreign policy of prioritizing relations with Vietnam, adding that both the NA and the Cambodian Senate are promoting the ties with the Vietnamese AN, an effort to connect both legislative bodies.

He highlighted the flourishing tourism cooperation between both countries, with Vietnamese tourists in second place in Cambodia in the first quarter of this year.

On the occasion, Hun Sen briefed President Hue on his speech to the Senate, affirming his commitment to contribute to cooperation between the two governments and legislatures. He stressed that, amid the uncertainties in the region and the world, the two parties, governments and legislative assemblies must intensify collaboration in all areas.

The two leaders agreed on the need to further strengthen the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries through the party, parliament, government and people-to-people exchanges, especially through high-level meetings between the two sides, the 13th session of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Investment, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, and the conference of border provinces.

They committed to maintaining effective coordination between relevant ministries, particularly those related to national defense, public security and foreign affairs, to ensure a border of peace and development.

The leaders also pledged to support Laos' presidency of ASEAN and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024 and boost solidarity among member states.

Hue hoped that Hun Sen would continue to instruct the committees of the Cambodian Senate to work closely with the committees of the Vietnamese NA to continue strengthening the role of legislative bodies in perfecting mechanisms and laws, creating a conducive legal framework for bilateral cooperation in various fields, supervise the implementation of agreements signed between the governments and ministries of both countries, offer mutual support in parliamentary forums such as AIPA, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF). In addition, there was a shared commitment to expedite the demarcation of the remaining 16% of the land border between Vietnam and Cambodia as soon as possible.

Regarding the legal documents of Cambodians of Vietnamese origin, Hue thanked Hun Sen and the Cambodian Prime Minister for their utmost attention to this matter. He hoped that attention would continue to be paid to this issue to create favorable conditions for their long-term well-being.

He expressed his hope that Hun Sen would support and lead the active and effective implementation of the cooperation agreement signed by the Cambodian Senate Secretariat and the Vietnamese NA Office in November 2022, further improve the effectiveness of youth exchange activities. leaders, youth, parliamentarians of friendship in order to maintain the tradition of solidarity, friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the two countries and legislatures.
