Who is responsible for the attack in Russia?

First modification:

Who is behind the attack in Russia? Almost two weeks have passed since the attack on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow and there is still no conclusive evidence to confirm responsibility, although the jihadist Islamic State claimed responsibility. The Kremlin has hinted on multiple occasions that Ukraine could be involved, but kyiv denies these accusations, while a faction of the Islamic State has reaffirmed its responsibility. Who could benefit from this whole situation? We discussed it in The Debate.

Russia is in the process of prosecuting those allegedly responsible for the deadliest attack in decades. On March 22, armed individuals stormed Crocus City Hall, a complex that includes a concert hall and a shopping mall in Moscow, unleashing a volley of gunfire and throwing grenades that resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 144 people.

Although the Kremlin has detained at least 10 suspects and repeatedly pointed to Ukraine as a possible culprit, kyiv has refuted these claims. This comes despite President Vladimir Putin claiming from the beginning that “radical Islamists” were the perpetrators of the attack, and an Islamic State-affiliated group known as ISIS-K claimed responsibility for it.

Who is really behind the Crocus City Hall attack? Is Russia exposed to more attacks? These questions will be discussed with our guests:

– Ruth Ferrero, professor of Political Science and European Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid and researcher attached to the Institute of International Studies.

– Christian Lamesa, geopolitical analyst and author of the book 'The Fatherhood of Evil – Hitler's Accomplices'.
