“The day the agreement was signed, there was a five percent drop in global grain prices,” Cavusoglu explained, a day after the first ship loaded with corn left the port of Odesa, in the south of the country. The ship was the first to leave port since the start of the war on February 24.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed on Monday that the grain export deal was a diplomatic success for Ankara. “We see again in every regional and global crisis the importance of the path traveled by Turkey on the path of democracy and development during the last two decades,” he argued, as reported by the daily ‘Hurriyet’.

The deal went ahead after Ukraine and Russia agreed to a UN-sponsored plan to form a coordination center in the city of Istanbul to carry out joint inspections at port entrances and exits and ensure security. of the routes. The ships are scheduled to cross the Black Sea to the Bosphorus Strait, where the joint coordination center is located.
