After 5 years of its original announcement, Skull & Bones it will be ready. The reveal of the game was so striking that it made players dream of a great pirate adventure that would also allow them to feel like pirates and would let them discover a great story. Unfortunately, it has just been revealed that narrative is not the focus of the title.
This was confirmed by project director Ryan Barnard in an interview with True Achievements. According to the developer, the intention of this title is not to offer an experience focused on the narrative, but rather the team wants the experience to orbit around the player, for players to be the ones who create their own story and to be able to choose the type pirate they want to be.

doSkull & Bones then it will not have narrative?
However, the above does not mean that Skull & Bones have no narrative, script or story. Barnard clarified that during the adventure, in addition to having a background story, typical of the title universe in general, players will be able to find “narrative pieces”.
The latter will be seen by encountering NPCs called Kingpins, each of which will have their own story and that players will be able to meet after fulfilling their contracts with them.
In case you missed it: Ubisoft does not believe that Skull & Bones will be successful according to this report.
That said, the team preferred to prioritize an immersive single-player experience over having them live through a pre-created and scripted story of a lead character. The good news is that Ubisoft apparently intends for players’ history as pirates to be a lasting one.
Precisely with the support it will give the game in mind, Ubisoft made the decision not to release the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: “I think in our development cycle, we wanted to release this title and with the longevity and support we had planned, it made sense for us to release it on the current generation of consoles.
