The IAEA asks Iran for more collaboration on its nuclear program

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (DPA/EP) –

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, on Monday called on Iran to collaborate with his organization in view of the growing tensions and the lack of progress in the negotiation to recover the 2015 nuclear agreement.

“We need, I say it clearly, we need to have adequate access to the full scope of this nuclear problem,” Grossi declared at the start of the 10th Follow-up Conference of the Parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty being held this Monday in New York.

It is crucial for the IAEA “to be able to give the necessary and credible guarantees so that all the activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are of peaceful use,” he added.

This same Monday, Iran has opted for an agreement to reinstate the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which Tehran has been progressively withdrawing since the United States unilaterally abandoned it in 2018.

In recent hours, the High Representative of the European Union for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, mediator in the negotiations, has exchanged several draft agreements with the United States and Iran for study.
