More than half a ton of cocaine seized in the port of London

July 30 () –

The British National Crime Agency (NCA, for its acronym in English) has reported the discovery in the port of Puerta de Londres of a shipment of more than half a ton of cocaine from Colombia and whose final destination was the Netherlands.

According to the authorities, the drug could have a market value of 40 million pounds (about 47.6 million euros) and was hidden in a shipment of bananas carried by a ship.

The drug was discovered last Tuesday in hundreds of bales placed next to the fruit in cardboard boxes, as explained by the director of operations of the NCA, Adam Berry, quoted by the British network Sky News.

Berry has stressed that it is a “major blow” for drug traffickers. “Locating a shipment of this size is a major blow to the criminal network involved and will prevent them from earning millions of pounds that would have been spent on the crime,” she said.

“Class A drugs (such as cocaine) are used by gangs involved in violent and criminal acts in our communities (…). Findings like this demonstrate how we can break that relationship between international drug cartels and drug traffickers. street,” he argued.
