The Iraqi Prime Minister calls for immediate political dialogue after the new assault on Parliament

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mostafá al Kazemi, has appeared this Saturday urgently before the nation to demand that the Iraqi political forces immediately launch a political dialogue to resume the paralyzed government talks in the midst of a new day of chaos in Baghdad, where the followers of the cleric Muqtada al Sadr have returned to occupy Parliament for the second time this week, and their clashes with the security forces have already left 125 wounded.

“The political blocs must sit down, negotiate and come to an understanding for the sake of Iraq and the Iraqis, and the language of betrayal and exclusion must be avoided, and a high and inclusive patriotic spirit must be displayed,” Al said. kazemi.

Tens of thousands of supporters of the cleric Al Sadr, winner of the last legislative elections, have thus returned to blockade the Iraqi capital in protest at the candidacy of the pro-Iranian Shiite politician Mohamed Shia al Sudani, rival of the religious, to the post of new prime minister in substitution of Al Kazemi.

Al Sadr, whose Sayirún coalition won the legislative elections last year, has spent months denouncing the inability of the rest of the political forces to form a new government, and has assured that the pro-Iranian group to which the candidate Al Sudani belongs, Marco de Coordinación, a large defeated in the elections, should not have a presence in the new Executive.

However, and after the resignation in June of the Sadrite parliamentary bloc due to the blockage in the negotiations, the pro-Iranian group decided to take a step forward and present Al Sudani, a former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, as a candidate.

“A thousand days of calm dialogue are better than a moment in which a drop of Iraqi blood is spilled”, Al Kazemi asked before inviting all the politicians involved in the negotiations to carry out an exercise in “honesty” to recover ” the confidence of the population.
