Russia insists that it will resume gas supplies to Bulgaria when the conditions dictated by Gazprom are met

July 28 () –

The Russian ambassador in Sofia, Eleonora Mitrofanova, has asserted that Moscow will resume gas supplies to Sofia as long as the payment conditions dictated by the Russian gas company Gazprom are met.

Speaking to the Russia24 television network, Mitrofanova stressed that the agreement between Bulgaria and Gazprom is in force until the end of the year, so gas replenishment can take place “at any time.”

“Many experts call for pragmatism and to return to the agreement with Gazprom, which is valid until the end of this year. Therefore, at any time when the Bulgarian side decides to pay for the agreement with the scheme that Gazprom requires, deliveries will resume,” said the Russian ambassador to Bulgaria.

The Russian state gas company Gazprom announced at the end of April the “complete stoppage” of supplies to Bulgaria and Poland due to the refusal of Sofia and Warsaw to pay in rubles.

At the end of March, the Russian government signed a decree establishing that payment for Russian gas supplied from April should be made exclusively in rubles, a decision that the Bulgarian and Polish gas companies did not adopt.

However, already at that time from Sofia they assured that the gas supply was “guaranteed” and that the Government had been preparing “for a long time” for such a scenario.
