Samsung is the first company to produce and ship 3-nanometer chips

Samsung has overtaken TSMC in the race to become the first foundry to start manufacturing 3-nanometer chips. Technically, production started last month, but Samsung has confirmed the first shipment of chips with this lithograph this week.

The 3-nanometer process promises higher performance and 45% less power consumption, although many more aspects of this process have not been mentioned. The manufacturer has indeed explained that GAAFET transistors have been used, a technique that allows Samsung to choose transistors without compromising their ability to transmit electricity.

Thanks to this, the efficiency of the new chips should increase significantly, since according to Samsung, its first chips at 3 nanometers will have a 45% reduction in energy consumption and a 23% increase in performance, all in a footprint 16% smaller than 5nm processors.

Without a doubt, this is a major advance in semiconductor manufacturing that we will probably see in the next high-end Exynos processors, in addition to the chips of Samsung customers, both at the level of mobile chips and other larger semiconductors such as GPUs.
