Macron accuses Russia of being "one of the last colonial imperial powers"

July 27 () –

French President Emmanuel Macron accused Russia on Wednesday of being “one of the last colonial imperial powers” after launching “a territorial war in Ukraine” and deciding to “invade a neighboring country to defend its interests there.”

“He decided that information, energy and food were military instruments put at the service of a continental imperialist war against Ukraine,” he said during a press conference with his Beninese counterpart, Patrice Talon, in Benin, as reported by the newspaper ‘Le Monde’.

According to Macron, it is the Russian side that creates “imbalances despite all the diplomatic tours and misinformation they do around the world.” The French president, who is on a tour of Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau this week, thus referred to the contacts of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is also on the African continent.

“CHINA COULD BE NEXT”

In fact, Lavrov assured this Wednesday from Ethiopia that “the West will not hesitate to impose sanctions on any country that irritates it” and that, therefore, China could be “the next” victim, as reported by the news agency TASS.

“Except for two or three developing countries, no one in Africa, Asia or Latin America has joined the illegitimate sanctions of the West against Russia,” he told representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Addis Ababa.

Lavrov has held a meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart, Demeke Mekonnen, to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations, especially in view of the Russia-Africa forum, which will take place soon in St. Petersburg, according to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zajarova.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry has told the Ethiopian Foreign Minister that from Moscow they support the “efforts being made by the country’s government to stabilize the situation and launch an inclusive national dialogue to address key issues on the national agenda.”
