The first large passenger plane made in China, the C919, is close to receiving certification after completing all its test flights.

All six test aircraft had completed their test flights on July 19, and the program entered the final phase to receive certification, according to a post on the official social media account of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

Certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China is the final step required for business operations.

The domestically developed C919 represents a milestone in China’s ambition to enter the commercial aviation market. The country is among the fastest growing civil aviation markets in the world.

In March last year, China Eastern Airlines and COMAC signed a purchase contract for five C919 aircraft, which will be mainly based in Shanghai after delivery.
