US Ambassador to UN agencies travels to Guatemala and Honduras

The United States ambassador to the United Nations Agencies in Rome, Cindy H. McCain, will remain in Guatemala until July 27 and will leave that day for Honduras, for a visit that will last until the 30th of this month.

The agency reported in a statement that the diplomat, based in the Italian capital, plans to review various UN projects financed by the US during her tour of the two Central American countries.

The brief text explained that the US diplomat’s visit seeks to “show how the US government, UN food and agriculture agencies and the governments of Guatemala and Honduras collaborate to reduce hunger and food insecurity and promote humanitarian aid , protecting livelihoods and economic growth fueled by agriculture, especially at this critical time for food and fertiliser.”

In Guatemala, Ambassador McCain is scheduled to visit the dry corridor and speak with families benefiting from US-funded UN projects in Chiquimula, Plan de Jacote and Jalapa.

He will also meet with high-level government officials and members of the private sector to discuss US government investments in food security in Guatemala, as well as the current global food security crisis.

In Honduras, the US ambassador is scheduled to visit several UN programs sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) that support family farming and inclusive agri-food systems in La Paz. , Lempira and Intibuca.
