() — Several people would have been injured during multiple shootings this Monday in different places in the city and the municipality of Langley, near Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
One man is in custody, and investigators believe he is the only suspect, the agency said in a news release.
Jessica Bernardo told that she was driving to work when several police cars pulled up in front of her vehicle and stopped traffic at the corner of 200 Street and Highway 10 in Langley.
“They (the police) started running away with weapons,” Bernardo said. “I noticed to my right that they had someone on the ground.”
Bernardo said police stopped traffic for about 15 minutes before allowing drivers to pass.
Authorities issued an emergency alert to warn residents of the potential danger, until police could determine if the suspect acted alone, they said. A subsequent alert noted that they had the sole suspect in custody.
In Canada, the National Public Alert System is used to provide “life-saving warnings that are area-specific (geographically targeted),” according to its website.
The investigation is still active, police said in a news release.
