Chromebooks with mobile data will work as WiFi hotspots

The chromebooks that have a mobile data plan will soon be able to function as WiFi access points for other devices, as is currently the case with iOS and Android terminals.

Currently, these devices can be subscribed to a data plan so that they work autonomously, without the need for connect it to Wi-Fi networks or to the data of a terminal.

Likewise, the mobile data of a telephone can be used to connect one of these laptops focused on the educational field to the Internet.

This type of connection is called a ‘sharing connection’ or ‘mobile hotspot’, and for this, only you need to enable this option in the terminal and connect the computer to said mobile network, from the Configuration section.

In this way, the mobile data are sent to the Chromebook so that it can work without the need to connect to a WiFi network, something that is not possible in reverse, that is, sending mobile data from a laptop to a smartphone.

As reported by Google on the page of Support and Help Using your Chromebook, sharing your data connection increases your phone’s battery usage and you may incur additional charges for mobile data usage.

Now, just as 9to5Google has warned in ChromeOS code, the company is working on a new way to establish a mobile data connection that allows a Chromebook to function as a WiFi hotspot for other devices.

In this way, the laptop, which has a higher battery capacity compared to a ‘smartphone’, could transmit your data to a mobile phone.

From this portal they suggest that the company has recently started working on this option and that full support for using a Chromebook as a WiFi access point is likely to be implemented next year.
