The Kremlin has assured this Monday that the attack carried out on Saturday against the port of the Ukrainian city of Odessa (south) should not affect the export of grain, after the agreement reached on Friday between Moscow and kyiv with the mediation of Turkey.
The spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, has pointed out that the attack “only affected military infrastructure.” “It is not connected in any way to the infrastructure used to honor agreements and export grain,” he has said.
“Therefore, this should not in any way affect the start of the (grain) shipment process,” Peskov stressed, as reported by the Russian Interfax news agency.
Likewise, he has demanded that the United Nations “do its part” to remove the restrictions on Russian exports and has pointed to the need for the mechanism agreed for grain exports to be put into operation before assessing its effectiveness, according to what has been collected. the Russian news agency TASS.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova, stressed on Sunday that the attack was launched with ‘Kalibr’ missiles against “military infrastructure in the port of Odessa”. Thus, she explained that the target was “a Ukrainian military ship”, hit in a “high-precision” bombardment.
The attack against the port of Odesa was received between the concern of Turkey, guarantor of the agreement, and the condemnation of the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Ukraine itself, which denounced the launch of at least four Kalibr missiles, two of which ended up impacting the port facilities.
Under the deal, a coalition of Turkish, Ukrainian and UN personnel will oversee grain loading onto ships in the Ukrainian ports of Odessa, Chernomosk and Pivdenyi, before sailing a pre-planned route through the Black Sea.
