The pro-Russian authorities create electoral commissions for the accession referendum of Kherson and Zaporiya

The pro-Russian authorities of the Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia have formed electoral commissions this Saturday for the organization of future independence referendums that would legitimize their accession to the Russian Federation.

The Kherson commission will have seven members who will hold office for three years, according to the press office of the new pro-Russian civic-military authorities in the area, quoted by the Russian news agency TASS.

“By decree of the head of the Supreme State Administration of the Kherson region (…) it is specified that the commission is formed, among other purposes, to hold a referendum on the accession of the Kherson region to the Russian Federation,” pick up TASS.

The inhabitants of the “liberated region” of Kherson “have every right to express their opinion on the future of the region”, so “according to the usual practice, it will be decided by elections and referendum”.

From this moment on, associations and civil society organizations will be able to submit their proposals to occupy the seats of the new electoral commission.


Also the head of the State Administration of the Zaporizhia region, Yevgeni Balitski, has signed a decree to create an electoral commission for the same purposes.

Russia has recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics and also occupies the Ukrainian provinces of Kherson and Zaporizhia as a result of the invasion that began on February 24.

From kyiv they have already denounced Russia’s intention to organize popular consultations to justify the annexation of Zaporizhia and Kherson, while Russia has already recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, in Donbas.
