The heat wave in China reaches its peak this Saturday with temperatures above 40ºC

The Chinese authorities have declared a state of alert in several regions of the country in the face of the heat wave that this Saturday will reach one of its peak moments with temperatures above 40ºC.

Since this morning, some regions of Xinjiang and the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian, in the east of the country, have already exceeded this threshold and the same could happen this coming Sunday, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

The Xinjiang region is now on red alert, the highest in the weather warning system, after the thermometer reached 43.2ºC in Turpan.

At around 2:00 p.m. local time, the temperature at the Wenzhou National Weather Station in east China’s Zhejiang Province reached 41.8 degrees Celsius, breaking the station’s previous record of 41.7 degrees Celsius on Jan. 15. July 2003.


The national meteorological station in Jinan, in the province of Fujian, has also registered a record temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius this Saturday, according to data collected by the ‘Global Times’.

The authorities estimate that this heat wave will persist over the next few days, although with slightly lower temperatures.
