President Castro will receive the US Secretary of National Security in Honduras

Almost two months after conclusion of the IX Summit of the Americasthe Secretary of National Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, will travel to Honduras to meet with President Xiomara Castro and follow up on the agreements on migration issues.

Mayorkas will be in the Central American nation on July 26 and 27. During his visit, in addition to the president, he will hold meetings with Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina, Security Minister Ramón Sabillón, and other high-ranking officials, the agency announced in writing.

Castro was recently visited by the head of the Southern Command of the United States, General Laura Richardson, with whom he discussed bilateral cooperation on security issues and the fight against organized crime as fundamental aspects to curb irregular immigration.

“That makes people feel insecure and that makes, in some cases, drive migration because people don’t feel safe, they can’t get food and they can’t get health care. They want to go where they can prosper as a family and can live free, safe and prosperous, “Richardson said then in statements to the voice of america.

Mayorkas also plans to meet UN agencies responsible for offering protection and support to migrants, the statement said.
